Local Teens and Local Food

Don’t miss the Local Foods-Local Teens series at Gossett’s Farm Market this Saturday, July 3rd from 10-1pm. Local amateur chef Anna Jade Flournoy will inspire you with her creative and passionate approach to turning farm-fresh produce into delectable vegetarian and raw dishes.  As always, you can ask questions, learn new techniques and stick around for samples!

If you know a teen who would like to participate, or do their own demo, please contact editor AT katonahgreen.com

The Local Foods-Local Chefs series was created by Heather Flournoy of KatonahGreen in order to inspire home cooking, show people how to use foods they may be unfamiliar with and raise awareness of the complexity of flavors and nutrient density of sustainably raised produce and meats.

Gossett's Farmer's Market is located in front of Gossett Brother's Nursery, 1202 Rte 35 in South Salem, NY

Meetup: Trip to Long Island Green Dome

Kevin Shea has invited us to visit his off-the-grid Long Island Green Dome! We'll carpool out there to lunch and explore the various methods he has used to produce his own heat and electricity, conserve water, and find out what troubles he has encountered along the way. Should be a lot of fun, and especially interesting to people considering their own energy reducing or energy producing projects.

Find out how he installed his own solar panels for electric, geothermal system for heating and cooling, and wind power generation.

The dome is super energy efficient, and sells power into the grid now. We'll even get to check out the radiant heat floors, low flow toilets, a waterless urinal, a system that captures hot water from the shower and recirculates it for heat, and so much more.

We'll meet at noon at the dome, tour the property... read more and RSVP

The Dome is in Baiting Hollow, NY

Special Announcement to Katonah Green Readers: Fresh Local Organic Produce Buyer's Club

Doug DeCandia from Digger's East Farmstand at the Ryder Farm

Interested in buying farm fresh produce and in the process supporting local agriculture?

I am forming a sort of "buyers club" - one in which I send out a weekly, or bi-weekly, e-mail with what we will have available for that week - and you write back with what you would like and when you can pick it up at the farm.

Interested, here is how I am thinking this can work:
- I send out an email at the beginning of the week with what we have available
- you write me back with what you would like and when you can pick it up (I would like to provide you with the freshest of produce, so if you can tell me at least a day in advance I can harvest within the day, and hopefully that day)
***PLEASE INCLUDE IN SUBJECT LINE - "Produce Order - and your pickup day"***
- pickup will be at the farm, or we can work out another arrangement on an individual basis.
- if you can call me before you come - it would best so that I can be sure to meet you.

Thank you all so very much for your support. I am very excited for this.

- Doug DeCandia
