Refreshments will be served at 7pm and the lecture will begin at 7:30 in the Garden Room
Ms.
Bone’s illustrated lecture “The Kitchen Mycologist” will
explain how a bit of mycology will make you a better mycophagist.
She’ll explore why some mushrooms more expensive than others, and
why are some only found in the wild and others cultivated? Why do
mushrooms cook the way they do? Why does one nutritionist say
mushrooms have no nutrition, and another says they are key to
nutritional health? How do I avoid getting ripped off when buying
truffles and truffle products? And are they really aphrodisiacs?
Eugenia
Bone is a nationally known food writer and lecturer, and the
President of the New York Mycological Society. With three books on
food and cooking, and articles printed in The New York Times
Magazine, The
National Lampoon,
Saveur,
Food &
Wine,
Gourmet,
Fine
Cooking,
The
Wine Enthusiast,
and Martha
Stewart Living,
Ms. Bone boldly steered into a new frontier to study the science of
fungi for her fourth book, “Mycophilia: Revelations from the Weird
World of Mushrooms.” Delving into the topic uncovered mushroom
mysteries, and cultivated a deeper understanding of nature.
