Local Food-Local Chefs: Culinary Institute Chefs-in-Training! Saturday, July 24, South Salem

Gossett's Farmer's Market, 1202 Rte 35, South Salem, NY

Come join the fun at Gossett’s on Saturday July 24th
South Salem resident and soon-to-be graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Allyson Merritt, a 2007 graduate of JJHS, was invited to bring a team of her classmates, and, using only the fresh local ingredients found at the Market that day, create delicious recipes for patrons to sample. Cheer the chefs on, and get recipes and advice from them about how to best utilize the wonderful local products offered for sale at the Market!

The students will also be promoting their final senior project, “Preserving the Summer, Celebrating the Bounty of the Hudson Valley.” This charity event will be held at the Culinary Institute of America on Saturday, August 7th. There will be hors d’oeuvres, wine & cocktails, dinner, dancing to a live bluegrass band, and a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and the Peter F. Lenich Memorial Scholarship Fund. The all-inclusive cost for the event is $70. To find out more, you can call their information hotline at  845-905-4674, or visit the CIA website  to see the menu for the evening and make reservations.

The Local Foods-Local Chefs series was created by Heather Flournoy of KatonahGreen in order to inspire home cooking, show people how to use foods they may be unfamiliar with and raise awareness of the complexity of flavors and nutrient density of sustainably raised produce and meats.
