Film Series: Lost Rivers October 2nd, Jacob Burns Film Center (Pleasantville)

Jacob Burns Film Center presents Focus on Nature Film Series: Lost Rivers

Once upon a time, rivers flowed in almost every city, but we developed their banks and polluted their waters, making them conduits for disease. The only solution was to hide them underground. Lost Rivers takes us around the globe to explore these hidden pieces of urban nature and meet the visionaries who are bringing them back to light. Featuring a stunning “daylighting” success story for the Saw Mill River in Yonkers! • Caroline Bâche. 2012. 72 m. NR. Canada. Icarus Films.

Q&A Saw Mill River project facilitators Ann-Marie Mitroff (Groundwork Hudson Valley River Program Director) and Jim Pinto (former Yonkers Director of Waterfront Development), and Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan.

Caroline Bâche. 2012. 72 m. NR. Canada. Icarus Films.

Two Faces of Fracking: 'Milk a Cow's Tail' at Chekhov Festival: Saturday Sept 28 Ridgefield

NY Quality theater in Ridgefield. A treat!

2013 Chekhov International Theatre Festival
The Theatre at Schlumberger
36 Old Quarry Road Ridgefield, Connecticut

Saturday, September 28 @ 2:00
Milk a Cow's Tail by Sheri Graubert

Give feedback on the play! Each play in the Checkhov festival has a Q&A afterwards with the writers and directors, moderated by John Bergstrom!

This particular piece on fracking aims to show the heartbreaking decisions, and is not one-sided. After attending the first of the series on Thursday night, I expect Milk a Cow's Tail to be just as involving and excellent!

Join this super talented group of stage actors for a special staged reading of a play about hydraulic fracking with Q and A; this is your chance to influence the play prior to its next stops!

Then, on Saturday evening...

Saturday, September 28 @ 8:00
Killer Therapy - A comedy by Brandt Johnson
An infamous assassin drops in on a pacifist therapist on her way to spin class. She stays. He discovers his lost humanity, and she discovers her inner ninja.

Gasland Part II Screening: Wednesday, September 11th Rye

Grassroots Environmental Education & Wainwright House

present...

GASLAND II

The sequel to "GASLAND," this film not only continues to explore the damage to our nation from the practice of drilling for natural gas using horizontal hydrofracking, but also includes interviews with scientific experts about why fracking can never be done safely and the economic and technical capacity for renewable energy resources that are readily available eliminating the need for further drilling for dirty fossil fuels: coal, oil and natural gas.  The film sheds light on the biggest concern that " the enormously powerful oil and gas industry has not only contaminated our water, air and land, but also our democracy".
