Film: FLOW at Jacob Burns, Fri, Feb 20th and Sun, Feb 22nd

GLOBAL WATCH

FLOW

“A documentary and a three-alarm warning...it should make you think twice before you take that (unfiltered) shower.” (New York Times)

As An Inconvenient Truth was to global warming, so Flow hopes to be for the looming global water crisis. We have grown dangerously accustomed to taking this precious resource for granted. How many people have considered what could happen if the water supply were privatized? How many know that in some places it already is? Featuring superbly shot footage from around the world and a compelling array of expert testimony, Flow serves as both an indictment and a stirring call to action.

The Great Back Yard Bird Count--Fri., Feb. 13

Friday, February 13–Monday, February 16
Location: Your backyard
It’s easy and great fun to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count
   1. Visit www.birdcount.org for easy-to-follow instructions, including tips for identifying bird species. Download a checklist for your area.
   2. Count the birds you see, wherever you choose to count. Write down the highest number of individuals you see at one time—that way you will avoid counting any bird twice.
   3. After at least 15 minutes of watching in one place, report your results online at www.birdcount.org. (You can spend more time observing if you prefer.)
   4. You can repeat your count at the same place on each day of the Great Backyard Bird Count. You can also visit other locations and submit separate tallies for those areas as well.
View your results
Online maps and lists are updated throughout the count, making it easy to see how your birds fit into the big picture.

Do you know what the top 10 most commonly reported species were in the 2008 GBBC? Find out by visiting: www.birdsource.org/gbbc/gbbc-bro-pos-081204-lr.pdf

Our next walk will be partly a road walk, at Mountain Lakes Park, on Monday, February 9th at 1 p.m.. Only part of this walk is paved, so any baby strollers will have a short walk. We will walk as much of the circumference as we can, which should take 1 ½ - 2 hours. Wear boots. From Route 35 at the Mobil Station, take Bouton Road to the end and turn left onto Main Street. Take first left onto Oscaleta Road, which turns into Hawley Road in North Salem. The entrance to the park is right at the border where there is an enormous sign. Turn right into the entrance road and park on the left before the chain. Organized by Vi Patek. Sign up for her eletter announcements on http://www.westchesterlandtrust.org/lewisboro
